The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is set to invest around $315 million in IDFC FIRST Bank, an Indian lender, through its subsidiary Platinum Invictus B 2025 RSC. This investment is part of a larger capital infusion announced by the bank, which will involve convertible shares that will convert into a 5.10% equity stake in IDFC FIRST Bank.

In addition to ADIA, global private equity firm Warburg Pincus will also participate in this funding round, investing $585 million through its affiliate Currant Sea Investments B.V. This investment is expected to yield a 9.8% equity stake in the bank after conversion.

IDFC FIRST Bank has undergone significant transformation over the past six years, evolving from an infrastructure-focused institution to a modern, technology-driven universal bank. The bank has invested heavily in its distribution network, digital capabilities, and talent acquisition, positioning itself as a leading private sector bank in India.

Hamad Shahwan AlDhaheri, Executive Director of the Private Equities Department at ADIA, praised IDFC FIRST Bank for its strong leadership and expansion of both digital and physical infrastructure. He emphasized that the investment aims to support the bank's growth in response to the increasing demand for financial services in India.

V. Vaidyanathan, the bank's Managing Director and CEO, expressed gratitude for the support from ADIA and Warburg Pincus, highlighting their confidence in the bank's growth vision, especially during uncertain global economic conditions.

ADIA has reaffirmed its long-term investment strategy, focusing on a diversified global portfolio that spans various geographies and asset classes to ensure consistent returns across market cycles. The sovereign wealth fund has notably increased its private equity investments in recent years to seize opportunities in both developed and emerging markets.
