Astorg, a prominent private equity firm, has made significant strides in the assisted reproductive technology (ART) sector by acquiring FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific’s Medical Media Business. This acquisition follows Astorg's recent take-private of Hamilton Thorne and the acquisition of Cook Medical’s Reproductive Health business, further consolidating its position as a global leader in ART.

The FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific Medical Media Business specializes in products essential for in-vitro fertilization (IVF), including culture and vitrification media. By integrating these three businesses, Astorg aims to create a comprehensive portfolio of innovative products that enhance fertility treatment outcomes and accessibility for clinics and laboratories worldwide.

Judith Charpentier, Co-Head of Flagship Fund and Head of Healthcare at Astorg, emphasized that this acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to support fertility professionals and patients with advanced solutions. Olivier Lieven, Partner at Astorg, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the combined entity's commitment to innovation and high-quality products.

Wil Boren, CEO of the newly formed company, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the leadership team at FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific to establish a global ART leader. Tim Mullane, President of FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific, noted that this transition allows the company to focus on its life sciences businesses while ensuring that the Medical Media Business thrives under Astorg’s stewardship.

Astorg is actively working on integration plans that include significant investments aimed at enhancing product offerings for fertility clinics and IVF laboratories. With over €6.5 billion invested in healthcare, Astorg has a strong track record in the sector, having previously invested in companies like hg Medical and CordenPharma.

The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Astorg, headquartered in Luxembourg, manages over €23 billion in assets and specializes in acquiring market-leading companies in Europe and the US. The firm prides itself on its entrepreneurial culture and long-term investment perspective, particularly in healthcare, technology, and business services.

Hamilton Thorne, part of the newly combined entity, is recognized for its precision instruments and consumables for ART, serving customers in over 115 countries. FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific, a leader in cell culture solutions, has been committed to advancing healthcare for over 50 years, providing essential products for various medical applications.

This strategic acquisition positions Astorg and its partners to significantly impact the ART market, enhancing the quality and accessibility of fertility treatments globally. The integration of these businesses is expected to yield innovative solutions that will benefit fertility clinics, laboratories, and patients alike.
