Cinven Acquires Majority Stake in Grant Thornton UK
Mourant, a professional services business led by a law firm, has teamed up with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to advise Cinven, an international private equity firm, on its majority investment in Grant Thornton UK LLP. Grant Thornton is one of the largest professional services firms in the UK, offering audit, tax, and advisory services to a wide range of clients, including medium and large corporations, government entities, and individuals.
Cinven's investment signifies a partnership with Grant Thornton's UK Partner base and demonstrates the firm's confidence in the resilience and growth potential of the professional services sector. The goal is to support Grant Thornton's strategy to drive growth, enhance technology capabilities, and solidify its market position.
Mourant played a crucial role by providing specialized legal advice related to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cayman Islands, which was essential for structuring and implementing the deal. The BVI team was led by partner Ian Montgomery, while the Cayman Islands team was headed by partner Hayden Isbister, with support from Counsel Alastair Lagrange.
Ian Montgomery commented on the transaction, expressing pride in Mourant's support for Cinven during this significant deal. He highlighted the firm's private equity expertise and its ability to deliver high-quality offshore legal advice on complex, cross-jurisdictional matters. The collaboration with Freshfields allowed them to provide tailored support for this important investment in the professional services sector.
The transaction is pending partner ratification, regulatory approvals, and customary closing conditions.
