CVC Acquires Therakos from Mallinckrodt for ECP Systems

CVC Capital Partners has successfully acquired the Therakos business from Mallinckrodt, a global specialty pharmaceutical company. This acquisition, part of CVC Capital Partners Fund IX, aims to enhance Therakos' capabilities and services, ultimately benefiting patients who rely on its innovative therapies.

Therakos specializes in Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP), a treatment method for various immune-related diseases. Its systems are widely approved across multiple regions, including the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, Latin America, and South Korea, making it a preferred choice among healthcare providers and patients.

The leadership of Therakos will be taken over by healthcare executives Michael Rechtiene and Sandra Thompson, who will serve as Co-CEOs. Both executives have expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition and their commitment to advancing ECP technology. Rechtiene emphasized their shared passion for the therapy's positive impact on patients, while Thompson echoed this sentiment.

Cathrin Petty, Managing Partner and Global Head of Healthcare at CVC, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, highlighting the firm’s dedication to developing a leading photopheresis company under the guidance of Rechtiene and Thompson. She acknowledged the efforts of the Mallinckrodt team in facilitating the carve-out process.

Phil Robinson, Senior Managing Director at CVC, noted the significant growth opportunities for Therakos, aiming to expand its reach and provide innovative treatments to more patients globally.
