CVC Capital Partners bids $420M for snow sports rights

A coalition of prominent ski racers, snowboarders, and industry executives is urging the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to reconsider a significant investment proposal from CVC Capital Partners. This proposal, known as "Project Snow," was presented on November 30 and offers approximately $420 million for a 20% stake in the commercial rights of various snow sports, including snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and Alpine skiing.

In response to the proposal, FIS quickly communicated its position, stating that it is financially stable and does not require additional funding to achieve its strategic goals. However, nearly 60 athletes, executives, and FIS council members have signed a letter addressed to FIS President Johan Eliasch, urging him to engage in discussions with CVC regarding the investment opportunity.

Among the notable signatories are Olympic Alpine skiing medalist Mikaela Shiffrin and U.S. Ski & Snowboard CEO Sophie Goldschmidt, alongside council members from several countries, including Canada, Germany, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria. The athletes and executives are advocating for a constructive dialogue with CVC, emphasizing the potential benefits of the investment for the future of snow sports.
