Darktrace, a leader in AI-driven cybersecurity, has announced its proposed acquisition of Cado Security, a UK-based specialist in cloud investigation and response solutions. This acquisition aims to enhance Darktrace's capabilities in addressing cybersecurity challenges in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The deal is pending regulatory approval and is expected to finalize in February 2025.

Cado Security is recognized for its expertise in cloud data capture and forensics, providing comprehensive support across various environments, including multi-cloud and on-premises systems. Darktrace plans to integrate Cado's forensic technology with its ActiveAI Security Platform™, which will improve data collection and incident response for customers. This integration is anticipated to enhance the functionality of Darktrace's Cyber AI Analyst™, which streamlines investigations and reduces alert fatigue for cybersecurity teams.

Founded by James Campbell and Chris Doman, Cado Security has a strong background in cybersecurity. Campbell previously directed Cyber Incident Response services at PwC and led Australia's National Incident Response capability. Doman is known for creating the threat intelligence portal ThreatCrowd, which was later acquired by AT&T.

The acquisition aligns with Darktrace's strategy to bolster its cloud security offerings, following the successful launches of Darktrace / CLOUD™ for AWS and its expansion to Microsoft Azure. As businesses increasingly migrate to cloud platforms, the need for robust cloud security solutions has become critical. Darktrace's research indicates that cloud and SaaS platforms are common targets for cybercriminals, emphasizing the importance of AI-powered cybersecurity.

This announcement follows Darktrace's acquisition by Thoma Bravo in October 2024, highlighting a commitment to accelerating growth through innovative AI solutions. Cado's research and development teams will collaborate with Darktrace's existing R&D centers in the UK and the Netherlands to enhance cloud detection and response capabilities.

Jill Popelka, CEO of Darktrace, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that it will enhance their ability to protect customers in a rapidly evolving threat landscape. Campbell echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership with Darktrace will foster growth and innovation while advancing their shared mission of enhancing cybersecurity.

Cado Security is recognized for revolutionizing incident response through automation, significantly reducing response times and empowering security teams to conduct thorough investigations across various systems. The integration of Cado's technology with Darktrace's platform is expected to provide customers with a more comprehensive cybersecurity solution.

Darktrace, founded in 2013, utilizes proprietary AI to protect organizations from unknown threats by learning their unique operational patterns. With over 2,400 employees and nearly 10,000 customers globally, Darktrace continues to innovate in the cybersecurity space, filing over 200 patent applications to date.

In summary, the acquisition of Cado Security by Darktrace represents a strategic move to enhance cloud security capabilities, reflecting the growing importance of AI-driven solutions in the cybersecurity landscape. The collaboration aims to provide customers with advanced tools to effectively combat cyber threats and maintain resilience in an increasingly complex digital environment.
