August 7, 2024
PR Newswire

EQT, a global investment organization, has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Acronis, a leading cybersecurity and data protection platform. The deal involves the EQT X fund, with Acronis' founders, management, and existing investors, including CVC, Springcoast, and BlackRock Private Equity Partners, retaining significant minority shares. The transaction values Acronis above its last growth funding round in 2022.

Founded in 2003, Acronis provides integrated cybersecurity and data protection solutions for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and corporate IT departments. The company operates in over 150 countries, with 15 offices and more than 1,700 employees, supporting over 20,000 service providers to protect 750,000 businesses. Acronis' platform is designed to handle growing data and workload demands while ensuring high standards of security, integrity, and reliability.

Johannes Reichel, Partner and Co-Head of Technology within EQT's Private Equity advisory team, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting Acronis' strong market position and innovative capabilities. Ezequiel Steiner, CEO of Acronis, welcomed EQT's support for strategic expansion and thanked existing investors and the Acronis team for their contributions.

Phil Goodwin, research vice president at IDC, emphasized the importance of integrated data protection and cybersecurity, noting that Acronis' platform enables MSPs and corporate IT departments to achieve robust cyber preparedness with simplicity and reliability.

The transaction is pending customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q1-Q2 2025. EQT was advised by Milbank and Bär & Karrer on legal matters. Following this deal, EQT X is projected to be 40-45% invested.
