Founded in 1986 by Yuki Ito, Megabass specializes in fishing lures, baits, and rods that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.

The brand has cultivated a dedicated following among anglers, initially in Japan and later expanding into international markets, particularly the United States in the 2000s. Megabass has gained recognition through endorsements from prominent American anglers, contributing to its growing popularity.

Megabass has experienced significant revenue growth over the years, with increasing contributions from international markets. The company anticipates that consumer spending on fishing gear will continue to rise in Japan and the U.S., its primary markets. This trend is driven by casual anglers who are eager to enhance their skills and invest in high-quality products.

Through its partnership with L Catterton, Megabass aims to utilize the firm's expertise and resources to accelerate its growth, enhance production capacity, and strategically expand its distribution network. L Catterton has a history of investments in the outdoor sector, including companies like Airxcel, Heartland RVs, Open Road Resorts, and RealTruck.

In addition to this new partnership, L Catterton recently acquired Naomi Watts’ beauty brand, Stripes Beauty, to further boost its growth both domestically and internationally. This collaboration with Megabass marks another step in L Catterton's strategy to invest in promising brands within the outdoor and lifestyle sectors.
