Nordic Capital Acquires Anaqua for IP Management Solutions

Nordic Capital, a prominent private equity investor specializing in technology and payments, has acquired a controlling interest in Anaqua, a leading provider of intellectual property (IP) management solutions. This acquisition, announced on February 25, 2025, marks a strategic move aimed at fostering Anaqua's growth and enhancing its innovative IP management offerings.

Anaqua is known for its advanced platforms, AQX® and PATTSY WAVE®, which integrate essential workflows, data analytics, and payment processes for patent and trademark management. These platforms are designed to streamline operations and support decision-making for IP professionals, providing significant value to their clients.

With over 20 years of experience in scaling technology companies, Nordic Capital has made 33 investments in the sector, totaling an enterprise value of approximately EUR 26 billion. The firm aims to leverage its expertise to help Anaqua expand globally and improve its software capabilities, thereby solidifying its position in the market.

Anaqua's CEO, Bob Romeo, expressed confidence in Nordic Capital as a partner, highlighting their shared vision for transforming IP management through software innovation. COO Justin Crotty emphasized that Nordic Capital's support will be crucial in executing Anaqua's growth strategy and enhancing technology-driven solutions for the IP market.

Fredrik Näslund, a partner at Nordic Capital Advisors, stated that the firm looks forward to aiding Anaqua in its growth phase and establishing it as a leading IP management platform for innovation-driven industries.

Anaqua, headquartered in Boston, provides integrated technology solutions for IP management, serving nearly half of the largest U.S. patent applicants and numerous global brands. Its platforms are utilized by over two million professionals, including IP executives and legal experts, across various regions, including the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Nordic Capital, founded in 1989, focuses on creating sustainable businesses through operational improvements and transformative growth. The firm has invested around EUR 26 billion in nearly 150 companies, with a focus on sectors such as healthcare, technology, payments, financial services, and industrial tech. Its recent funds include Nordic Capital XI and Nordic Capital Evolution II, which have attracted significant commitments from international institutional investors.
