Growth capital investor BGF has reported an "exceptional" first half of 2024 for its Yorkshire and North East team, investing over £40 million in regional businesses. Notable investments include Leeds-based Boxphish, TaperedPlus, and Hull-based Tevalis. Across Northern England, BGF invested £120 million in SMEs over the past year.
In June, BGF exited Datum360, a Teesside-headquartered company, following its acquisition by US-listed Autodesk, Inc. Additionally, Yorkshire's Arc Inspirations secured further funding to expand its bar brands, including Banyan, BOX, and Manahatta, across the UK.
Barry Jackson, head of BGF in the North, highlighted the team's success in backing businesses to achieve growth while delivering strong returns. He emphasized BGF's flexible, minority investment approach, which appeals to entrepreneurs seeking support for scaling up. Jackson noted the significant impact these investments have had on the Yorkshire growth economy, driving innovation and value creation.
