Berkshire Partners Acquires Stake in Electric Power Engineers

Electric Power Engineers (EPE), a prominent firm specializing in energy and power systems engineering, has secured a strategic growth investment from Boston-based private equity firm Berkshire Partners. This investment aims to bolster EPE's capabilities in the rapidly evolving energy sector.

EPE is recognized for its expertise in various areas, including renewable energy generation, energy storage, and grid modernization. The firm collaborates with major global power and energy clients, offering a diverse range of consulting services and proprietary software solutions. These services encompass utility engineering, resource development, and advanced grid analytics, positioning EPE as a leader in the industry.

The management team, led by CEO Hala Ballouz and COO Stephanie Badr, will continue to steer the company while also being significant investors in this new phase. Lime Rock New Energy, which previously invested in EPE in December 2021, has fully exited its investment, marking a successful partnership.

AEC Advisors served as the exclusive financial advisor to EPE, while Houlihan Lokey provided similar services to Berkshire Partners during this transaction.

In her statement, CEO Hala Ballouz emphasized that the investment from Berkshire will accelerate EPE's growth and enhance its technological capabilities, including potential strategic acquisitions. She acknowledged Lime Rock New Energy's role in supporting EPE's growth over the past three years.

COO Stephanie Badr highlighted the unique opportunity EPE has to influence the ongoing energy transformation in the U.S. and globally. She noted that Berkshire's resources and experience make them an ideal partner for EPE as they aim to lead in delivering reliable and affordable electricity.

Blake Gottesman, Managing Director at Berkshire Partners, pointed out the unprecedented demand for electricity driven by growth in data centers, manufacturing, and electrification. He expressed excitement about partnering with EPE to meet this demand through innovative engineering solutions.

Mark Lewis, Managing Director at Lime Rock New Energy, reflected on the successful partnership with EPE and expressed anticipation for the company's next growth phase.

Overall, this investment marks a significant milestone for EPE, positioning the firm to expand its influence and capabilities in the energy sector amidst increasing demand and complexity in power systems.
